Driving Force behind Estonian Folks

We are the REMMET family and our story got a start in year 2001, when we first met at folk dance class.

The brightest and most memorable moments for us have been at dance camps and folkfestivals. To have more that sparkle and exitment in our lives, we desided to create club Estonian Folks International.

Estonian Folks connects our three biggest passions – dance, travel and good company.

Currently we work and study in London, where we also run a folk dance group in London Estonian Society.

My parents gave ballroom classes back in the days. As long as I remember dance have been always present in our family activities. Along my parents I got my first dance lessons. When I got older I joined a show group in Tallinn, ran by Tõnu Pomerants, where we practiced acrobatics, show-, break-, tap- and folk dances. I found folk dance really facinating and age 11 joined dance school Sõleke, led by Ene Jakobson. There I got most of my dance and performance skills. Some years ago I met my mentor Angela Arraste who has guided me ever since. Thanks to Angela I have gained most of my knowledge and accomplishments in folk dance.

I have also studied and performed:

Hip-hop style at StudioOne (later: D-Lux, Tallinn) with different instructors - Valusha Sokolova, Alisa Tsitseronova and Jene Walker

Bellydance, first trained by Riina Aro in Tallinn and later in Ines Karu-Salo's  dancestudio InesDance(Tallinn).

Burlesque and character dance at Burlesque Baby (London), guided by Rachel Darq, stage name Marquissa Darq.

At 2013 I joined with London Estonian Society folk dance group, which I run up to the present.

Currently I study Drama and Theatre BA at University of Greenwich, in London.

Sport and active life-style has always been huge part of my life. On my free time If I am not currently rollerscating or playing football I am probably watching it. Age 9, by chance, I was taken to the folk dance class at Sõleke(Tallinn) led by Ene Jakobson. At first I wasn’t into folk-dancing, but I really enjoyed the athmosphere, people and being present in the classes. I like the feeling of being part of a fun crowd, who are creating something that other people can enjoy too, just by whatching it. Now it’s been 14 years and I can’t imagine my life without folk dance.

Year 2010 I graduated Sõleke with diploma.

Performed also with dance-theatre club Tee Kuubis.

At 2013 joined with London Estonian Society folk dance group.
